The timing belt / cambelt has an incredibly important job of controlling the cam shafts in the engine, and keeps it running smoothly.

Your vehicle handbook or service book will indicate at what interval you should have your timing belt / cambelt changed.

If you go over the manufacturers recommendation it can lead to a slipped, or snapped belt, and in many cases this requires a new engine, or engine rebuild, which would be extremely costly.
